SEPTEMBER

We are beginning to learn how to be creative.  Here is a fun "rainy" day activity that gives us some ideas.  We tried this then played in our own circle with our own ideas.

Now that we are pretty good at steady beat-singing, playing, feeling it- we are moving on to learning about loud and soft (not high and low as they currently call it)

Here is a fun video.

Ernie and Bert loud and soft

Kermit and Elmo and loud and soft

This month we started to focus a bit more on the xylophones and proper hand position using a song called "These are our Mallets" and we also practiced playing softly and on different notes using a song called "If you're happy and you know it
This week we were learning about our 4 different types of voices: speaking, singing, shouting and whisper voices.  All students practiced using these different voices using different songs like "This is my speaking Voice"
We continue to work on singing alone in music class.  They are learning how to match pitch and use a singing voice.  This song uses two pitches, sol-mi.  These are pitches that you hear children use all the time.  It is the tune children use naturally when they play...'na
nana boo boo.'  We will work with these pitches to develop the singing voice.

We learned how to play soft and loud (piano and forte) and about how singing music softly or loudly can help us express ourselves-it can put babies to sleep or make us want to dance and celebrate.  We also learned the "Grizzly Bear Song" where we practiced singing soft and loud while playing a game.

AUGUST
Today was a fabulous first day in Kindergarten!  Kindy's started our first day by singing and playing some castanets with a song called 'Ole.'   The kids enjoyed singing along and dancing and playing these fun clicking instruments.  We have had so much fun getting to know each other.  Now we are learning about the sounds around us.  Some had no beat and others had a steady beat.  We learned how your heart and a clock are GREAT examples of a steady beat.  We also learned a song called Hickory Dickory Dock

We also learned how to march to a steady beat
